Facebook to introduce new feature that let loved ones know you're safe in a disaster.

Facebook has unveiled a new feature that we sincerely hope none of you will have to use.
Should you ever find yourself caught up in an area where a natural disaster is occurring, it’ll be quick and simple for you to let your friends know that you’re okay.
The feature is called Safety Check and it will work on Facebook’s mobile and desktop versions.
If you should find yourself caught up in or near to an unfolding disaster, Facebook will use its skills to send you a notification.
If you’re okay, you can tap a button that will post an update telling everyone that “I’m safe”.
If you’re not in the area where the disaster is happening, you can tap a button to tell everyone that you’re not in the area.
Facebook’s Naimo Gleit, Sharon Zeng and Peter Cottle have explained how it’ll work in a blog post.
They wrote: “We’ll determine your location by looking at the city you have listed in your profile, your last location if you've opted in to the Nearby Friends product, and the city where you are using the internet”.
Facebook came up with the Safety Check idea in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan in 2011, when they set up a Disaster Message Board.
The new service will initially be focused on natural disasters but could be rolled out to include other major emergencies or crises.
